A

Associate Degree or Associate Degree Level: A student enrolled in the two-year Agricultural Institute degree program.

Classification of Instructional Programs(CIP):Federal program taxonomy that categorizes all majors by a 6 digit code.

Classification (class): The level of the student--freshman, sophomore,etc.

Continuing: A student enrolled at the same degree level as the previous semester.

Curriculum: Abbreviations and short names for a student's major within a department.

Degree Level: Current level of enrollment -associate, undergraduate, graduate, professional,lifelong undergraduate or lifelong graduate. When broken into two levels: Undergraduate = associate, undergraduate, lifelong undergraduate. Graduate = graduate, professional, and lifelong graduate.

(DR) Doctorate: A doctorate degree-seeking student. Includes both Phd and EEd students.

(DV) Doctor of Vet Med A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree-seeking student.

(05) Fifth Year: (School of Design)-Fifth year of a five-year bachelor's degree program.

(01) First Year: An Agricultural Institute associate degree-seeking student with 0- 29 total hours passed.

(FR) Freshman: A bachelor's degree-seeking student with 0-29 total hours passed.

Full-Time: An undergraduate student carrying 12 or more credit hours or a graduate student carrying 9 or more credit hours.

Full Time Equivalent (FTE): Converted measure that takes partial units of measures and sums them to a whole. For example, one half-time plus two quarter-time students equal one student FTE.

Graduate: A student enrolled in a master's, doctorate, or other graduate program.

(GR) Graduate Unclassified: A student taking graduate education courses for a six-year teaching certificate or a student who has been admitted at the graduate level but is not presently in a specific graduate program.

Headcount Enrollment: Number of different students enrolled for credit in a given semester. A student may be enrolled in both regular term and distance education, but would count only once in total headcount.

(II) Inter-institutional: A student enrolled at a nearby college who is also taking courses at NC State.

Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) mandated and standardized federal data reporting of higher education information.

In-State: Home residence for tuition purposes is North Carolina. International: Home residence for tuition purposes is outside the United States.

(JR) Junior: A bachelor's degree-seeking student with 60-91 total hours passed.

L

Lifelong Undergraduate (LLE UG): A special (lifelong education) student taking undergraduate courses.

Lifelong Graduate (LLE GR): A special (lifelong education) student taking at least one graduate level course.

M

(MR) Master: A master's degree-seeking student.

N

New Undergraduate: A student enrolled at NC State for the first time who did not transfer from another college or university.

New Graduate: A student enrolled at NC State for the first time at the current graduate level.

O

Off-Campus or Extension Enrollment: Students taking distance education credit courses during a semester. At NC State distance education students register through Adult Credit Programs at McKimmon Center.

On Campus Enrollment: Students taking on-campus credit courses during a semester. At NC State on-campus students register through the TRACS system of Registration and Records. This is also referred to as regular term enrollment.

Out-of-State: Home residence for tuition purposes is outside of North Carolina but within the United States. Includes international students in cases where they are not counted separately.

P

Part-Time: An undergraduate student carrying fewer than 12 credit hours or a graduate student carrying fewer than 9 credit hours. Professional: A first professional student enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program.

(PR) Prof Engineer: A professional engineering degree-seeking student enrolled in one- year program beyond the bachelor's level.

Reentrant: A student returning to NC State at the same degree level after at least one semester break in attendance.

S

(02) Second Year: An Agricultural Institute associate degree-seeking student with 30 or more total hours passed.

SR) Senior: A bachelor's degree-seeking student with 92 or more total hours passed.

(SO) Sophomore: A bachelor's degree-seeking student with 30-59 total hours passed.

T

Transfer: An undergraduate student transferring from another college or university. Includes students who have previously taken credit courses at NC State through the Lifelong Education program.

U

(UN) Unclassified Undergraduate: A classification for an exchange student or for a student in the College of Education and Psychology who is seeking certification only.

Undergraduate: A student enrolled in a bachelor's degree program.
